I'm not sure whether you mean binary (virgin vs non-virgin) or as a continuum (having sex with hot girls vs not as hot girls) but pretty sure that's not true either way. It's pretty important but it's not "the ultimate" measure of status.

"Ultimate" is pretty vague, but it's true that this is the "ultimate" measure in an evolutionary sense. And unless we're talking super-rich or super-famous, it does seem like mate access tends to a massive determinant of (male) status. Mate access tends to trump other status 1/2

in a way too. E.g. we pity "rich but died alone", or "genius but celibate" in a way that we don't pity "average but died married", and pointing out virginity / celibacy can damage even men highest in other status markers. /end
