Generally speaking special education is very expensive, usually multiple times more than normal education. Not much evidence it works as far as I know.

Even if it worked, it would just work by bringing subpar kids up to a pathetic average standard.

Maybe we’re teaching a false narrative to children when we say they should all go to college instead of naturally gravitating to a career while the exceptional and driven few go on to seek higher ed

I mean would a 20 something year old really rather have massive debt for a degree that may or may not lead to a job in that field or no debt and a modest real estate career that could lead to a pretty high paying job

The Teachers’ Unions have been successful in convincing the general public that spending per pupil is the measure of caring about education. A huge PR win for the unions, but also a bald-faced lie.

Indeed. Although from an intertemporal standpoint, it seems evident that lower performance causes higher expenditure, more strongly than the reverse. Arguably another example of the social costs of institutional inefficiencies and bloat in the left tail of the IQ distribution.
