We shouldn't because teaching has weak long term effects so it would be stupid use of human talent to put more of it into teaching. Put human talent into innovation and science, the areas that drive human progress.https://twitter.com/SamHarrisOrg/status/992535212910247936 …

These people are mostly self taught. Especially the latter. Besides, I was referring to primary school, not university.

You see this the kind of idiotic logic you get from self proclaimed IQ researchers - "we need more science and innovation. Well stop spending money on education then!"

A few years back, eight grade kids in ND were first in the nation, while those in NM were around 45th. North Dakota spent 5,001 per kid, New Mexico spent 5000. All how that last dollar was spent.

I'm saying that past a pretty low level, educational spending, the way we spend it, has little effect. Which is what the Coleman report said, long ago: spending differences accounted for 4% of the variance.

Of course, there was no genetic control, so even these 4% are suspect.

Its not how much money the school has its how much the parents and community has. But this data to be meaningful needs to be adjusted for price level by state.

That doesn't have much to do with it. Rates of divorce have skyrocketed since 1960, while test scores have not changed much.
