      Original French data is in these papers. https://osf.io/s64wt/  https://osf.io/bkyzq/ . To calculate the approximate IQ means by region, we need the individual level SD for the odd IQ scale they used. (ping @Nico_uav)

      No, it's because he transformed the data incorrectly. We can do it better though. If we have the original individual level IQ sd, we can do it directly. Otherwise, I can do an estimate based on data from other countries.

      He transformed the values in the original 1980 paper, but did so incorrectly. It's right in the article, stop being lazy. ;)

          I checked some unpublished data data I have, the SD between Danish communes (n = 100ish) is 2.14 with a range of 12.6. If we assume the same value for France, this is the value you need to use on the z-scored versions of the French army data.
