I love dogs, but the fact that 250k ppl in Germany signed a petition against putting a dog that killed two people to sleep is insane.

Germany has like 80M people so that's 1/320 people. Seems like one could that proportion of people to sign anything.

You're right that it doesn't tell us much abt public opinion (could still be 80-20 or 20-80) but speaks to mobilization potential.

Most petitions do not get 250k even if certainly most ppl agree with the fundamental statement.
