I expect counterstereotype training will only work if it improves stereotype accuracy, which is probably not what the authors had in mind.
Actually, counter-stereotyping is expected to decrease the stereotype accuracy as it would push the expected differences towards 0, thus generally away from the true gap sizes because stereotypes generally underestimate true differences.
