Quick question that's been bugging me as I read this: is there a similar gap in other modern countries that aren't the US? This framing as "the dismal past is the cause" is annoying if we don't see that the gap doesn't exist where such dismal past didn't occur

Basically every country on Earth reproduces the usual racial gaps, and when not, it is due to obvious selection effects. Read Lynn's 2015 review book. Since you're Portuguese, why not just read some newspapers from Brazil and see how it is there?
