That second example is interesting Lee. Demonstrates a phenomenon I find very interesting: how politics sometimes seeps into other things, perhaps inadvertantly. Mind if I tweet it out?

Sure, but its not mine. Its from http://logicallyfallacious.com . The guy's website is off the charts. Both useful and really amusing. He has hundreds of logical fallacies, searchable. This one is "argument by pigheadedness." My other favs: Reductio ad Hitlerum and If-By-Whiskey.

Yeah, here is a mini-thread. You can't make this up. Tweeter was commenting on my Areo piece, claims there was no evidence, which was obviously ridiculous. I then called her on argument by denial. 1/2.pic.twitter.com/XeONEOhaJa

3/2 (sorry). I cannot resist pointing out that that person has a phd in anthro. This is the type of thing that has led me to start teaching soph level classes by starting w/basics of logic.

You do know how far left cultural anthro is, right?

I know, but there are people on the left who can make an argument. It really speaks to unbelievably bad training. At one point, I asked her "what does she count as evidence?" Ans: info based on "the scientific method." Felt like I was in convo w/8th grader.

So, after discussing logical fallacies, the best you guys can do is ad hominem? Meanwhile, I sit back and watch people who want to control student demonstrations with clear rules on what they can and can't demonstrate against, claim to be protecting student freedoms. Jee wizz.

We are worse than Hitler. All of us. Literally. Hitler Hitler everywhere. Hitler near, Hitler far, Hitler in your little car. Hitler up, Hilter down, Hitler Hitler all around.

It's concentrated Lee exasperation after >2 decades of largely failing to convince colleagues of even basic stuff like stereotype accuracy.
