@nickch argues that education increases HC in form of teaching conformity, and to "push through hard problems, endure boredom, write, follow instructions, coordinate and communicate." True, but is there any reason to think that school teaches these things better than working? -
There is a huge opportunity cost to education. For education to be worth it, it should not just be better than nothing, it should be better than what people otherwise would've done.

There are other and cheaper ways to categorize workers. I'm skeptical that education really teaches that much conformism. Sounds more like self-selection to me. But it's not as untestable as Nick implies, initial analysis can be done with ordinary longitudinal studies.
