So r2=1.3% which I think means dna associations your predisposition calculated on explain 1.3% of the variance or spread of differences in this trait among users. Do they define r2?

I think it's just the coefficient of determination, like you said. A simple linear models with some controls for age and sex.

This level of prediction is way too low. I would wait until about r = 0.30 (about 10% variance) before putting a predictor out.
