Man, maybe I should try mainstream spelling too.

Pretty much. Mainstream psychology isn't so much science as it is aping science in order to push ideological agendas. People with real scientific character are (generally, on the whole) deeply repulsed by the current practices, and gravitate to real STEM fields, if possible.
-
Kinda sorta. A lot of decent psychology too, mixed in with the other stuff. But yeah, as a field as a whole, it is quite blank slatist, pro-lefty and not very reliable.
-
Yes, I'm overstating / generalizing from my personal experience seriously considering the field. I care about the scientific study of psychology a lot, but I bumped in to too many people that destroyed my capacity for trust in the field in general.
-
Luckily, with the advent of open science á la late 1800s's gentlemen science, it is possible for non-academics to take part. The replication movement is going strong and will have a big impact. The final big issue to fix is the politics. Still working hard at that.
-
Agreed. I"m in a funny position, having left the field to pursue the programming meme, while simultaneously recognizing that the field has more potential now to recover than ever. I'm just making a certain gamble on the timescales.
