2/ Part of the predicament with public intellectualism is that you have to be provocative to get attention. If every sentence and tweet you utter contains a thousand qualifiers, the public is simply not going to reward you with views.

3/ The above is especially true when you don't have a mainstream platform like the NYT or CNN or BBC. But in order to have those platforms you have to toe the line and move up the ranks. You're unlikely to be a daring or challenging thinker.
