Considering that this is from 2001, it is quite prescient. Everything but (reproductive) cloning and trans-species genetic engineering is already on-going or in clinical trials. Really short version: thru biotech we can get less disease, physical and mental for our future kids. To some degree, one can also alter adults for it's difficult. In the longer term, we can also begin augmenting humans with genes from other species.
