Because wikipedia articles are controlled by whoever has the biggest and best connected wiki gang. If you have a big network of editors and admins on your side you can make sure that your version of articles wins out.

It's like the media. Very strong bias combined with a near total dearth of quantitative research on the topic. So weird to a quantitative person like me, so I'm tempted to give it a try...
