What I would like for people who make these kinds of claims. Give specific empirical predictions that can be tested, preferably with available or easily collectible data. Much of this stuff is too vague to be tested.

I don't think all history is just demographics and related mean traits, but demographics is the main driver (dare I say, destiny).

My overwhelming memory of it is "good institutions are good, bad institutions are bad, here's 300 pages of examples." I can't remember them considering the possibility that a skilled and innovative population demands inclusive institutions, rather than the other way round.
