Switzerland does relatively well, but it still takes in a bunch of refugees (and fakers) etc.

that's exactly what Sweden did 1984. The unions forced the govt to stop work migration=ban on refugees to work. It lead to migrants having less than 50% workforce participation bc of welfare dependence. Hence Sweden's problems today.
