Police estimates of false rape accusations often around 10% for those 'proven to be false'. Who knows what the real % is?

source on the police estimate? best source I know says 3%-8% https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s10508-015-0666-2 … (unexceptional, as far as false accusations of crimes go, but 1% is too much)

Way overly stringent definition of false accusation. Plus we often can’t know.

This blog is far better than that article: http://slatestarcodex.com/2014/02/17/lies-damned-lies-and-social-media-part-5-of- …∞/

I enjoy scott alexander too, but that article is a reponse to a terrible meme with very different numbers (and does not compare to false accusations for other crimes)

Nor does the article you like. It’s a limited review of rates of accusations proved false to a high degree of confidence. Not hard to see why that number might be low for rape regardless of true rate.

Would be informative to have police officers give their best guess in % of claim being false. Then plot the distribution of %'s. And for cases rated by multiple officers, check their agreement.
