I generally don't think permaprison is a cost-effective solution. I was thinking in line with angle bracelets for repeaters for lmt time.

Violent crime tends to drop off with age. Residents of old people's homes don't tend to commit much violent crime.

Yes, hence the ineffectiveness of permanent imprisonment.

Very naive. They are filling a niche. Others will replace them.

Politicians claim that gangs that sell drugs fill a niche too, would just move to other stuff if we legalize drugs. So far, completely wrong

Point taken, but they're two different things. Incarceration removes supply, but not demand for drugs. Legalising drugs removes demand.

Legalizing drugs reduces the black market. The black market is the main cause of drug problems, not drugs.

Isn't this also to a large degree because most crime is committed by men within a certain age range?

Most men/boys in the most crime active ages don't get even 1 conviction. There is an effect, but it is small.

I don't think there's enough studies of a diverese set of countries to say whether it's universal or not.

You can be quite sure that this is universal. These distributions always result when they reflect some accumulated achievement (creative, criminal, scientific etc.).

The graph seems to say that the top 1% average 55 convictions per offender. That doesn't seem plausible.

Think you should read some more of the convictions these people get. I've seen people with 100s.
