Has anyone seen an FOI on @TeachFirst budget recently ?If getting £ for research, that needs to be reviewed if they engage in science denial

just keep practicing the tests ;)
-
Raise IQ != raise general intelligence.
-
then why do they use IQ tests centrally in their resesrch?
-
a) necessary condition for showing you raised intelligence b) they don't know or want to do the latent variable analysis
-
oh it's b) that got me - why do you psychologists always assume that you are speaking to another psychologyst
-
the statistical analyses to show increases in general intelligence instead of just IQ are complicated and require lots of subjects and tests
-
The easiest method that doesn't require a lot of fancy stats is examining far transfer gains. E.g. WM training -> vocab gains.
-
Evidence does not support far transfer claims, however. http://journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/1745691616635612 …pic.twitter.com/TDtC7hjH1a

Read his works on the topic: https://www.researchgate.net/publication/318333093_Raising_IQ_among_school-aged_children_Five_meta-analyses_and_a_review_of_randomized_controlled_trials … https://www.researchgate.net/publication/298807078_Does_the_raising_IQ-raising_g_distinction_explain_the_fadeout_effect …https://www.researchgate.net/publication/284123208_The_environment_in_raising_early_intelligence_A_meta-analysis_of_the_fadeout_effect …

Wouldn't some of my work mean we do have evidence (so far) on raising intelligence in some ways? Not everything works and nothing permanent
-
Some evidence, yes. I think we are in agreement that it is not totally convincing and that top priority is doing a big-ass RCT to find out.
-
I would settle for more RCTs and pre-registering them too

What a hell of a qualifier! I know it was meant as a compliment so thank you.

Lots of non-legit optimists around! :)
-
That is unfortunately too true
