There is always DIF, only matter of n. Crud factor, measurement edition. Effect size & direction is the important part.

Don't disagree. Overemphasis on demonstrating fully invariant measures (particularly item level) perhaps misplaced in your opinion?

IMO the error is focus on demonstrating p<.05 which is only a matter of n->∞, dichotomous thinking á la Gelman criticism.

E.g. demonstrating DIF in, say, WAIS wouldn't tell us anything about how any conclusions would be biased. Need to know dir & size of bias.
