The problem is if the cancer is going to kill you, it's going to kill you. Cancer is heterogenous and evolves resistance to treatment too.

Not at all. It means early detection is a ruse: once you can detect a lethal cancer, it's too late to do anything about it.

Contrariwise, anecdotes about the miracles of early detection, in typical case, would probably not have been lethal even if detected late.
