Arguably the Twitter followers are a function of the links you collate. Follows don't necessarily mean endorsements.
One can argue that, yes. One could find more specific evidence, e.g. looking at retweets to tweets containing my own work.

In general, though, follows are usually do to agreement with and/or interest in the posted content. Not always, but mostly.
