What exactly does "visitation zone" mean in this context?
Means that the police have extra privileges to search you. Automatic probable cause for everybody in the area, essentially.

Ah ok, thx. We have something similar here, though it is rarely used around mosques, usually only where there is lots of drug-dealing.

They apply them very liberally here, covering very large pars of cities. Extreme overreach, probably not legal but no one has challenged yet

Sure. Police will do profiling of various sorts, but I think this loss of civil rights is very concerning. A non-solution to real problems.
