Not surprising to me. I passed most of uni with 0% attendance. Faster and more gainful to read the books than attend talks.

Lucky. My college instituted an attendance rule during my junior year. Made rest of college boring having to attend class.

Oh some classes had these too. Then I ignored them, begged for forgiveness close to exam. Teacher would give me an extra assignment.

then just do the extra assignment, which might take 1-3 hours. That's about the same as attending a single 2hr lecture.

For Existentialism we had to write an essay about anything. I wrote justifying why I should pass despite not attending class. I got an A.

I dropped out of phil. and studied linguistics instead. Less pseudoscience/nonsense phil, marginally more reasonable class mates.

Agreed. No matter what phil class I was in, discussion always went to "based on this interpretation, Hitler was right".
