Interesting! My intuition: reuse (data or self-plag) will reduce self-citation. A minimally smart author would not draw attention to problem

It's extremely indicative when you have multiple very similar non-mutually-referential papers. My BS proximity sensors go off.

Note that the pattern of correlations between citations, age, and total_issues means a small amount of reciprocal suppression will occur. :)
