I wonder how far modern day affirmative action inductees are from this level. This paper is from 1922, standard were higher back then. Hmm.
Stanford was originally free and had some interesting special programs IIRC aimed at ppl w/ unusual transcripts.
I don't think SAT had been invented, and certainly admissions was much mellower b4 heliparents and tiger moms started driving the process
In short, I suspect Stanford has become way more competitive since then.
You are forgetting the part where very few people went to university. Huge effect.

past few decades. I have met plenty of ppl who went to top schools who wouldn't get in today. The change is huge.
