Some people claim that teaching chess helps improve self-control, strategic thinking etc. Does anyone know any good studies?pic.twitter.com/TAoIuEdaPP

Maybe. Worth doing some large experiments, no? Chess is dirt cheap, so if that works, then it would be great. See: http://chessedu.org/wp-content/uploads/chess_improve_pisa.pdf …
I'm aware of WM training lit., but these are training on something else than general intel. Maybe GI is not trainable, but other improtant
traits might be more trainable. What I want is for them to do big proper RCTs, so we can be more sure of claims.
I don't know. I really don't expect it to work so I wouldn't personally invest in it, but if there's research on it that would be great.
If you want people to become better at something then just practice that thing. Don't do something else and hope for transfer.
