When immigrants come from non-European countries they bring with them a different, non-white, sense of American identity.
No idea what that means. Some cause problems, some don't. Easy to predict at origin country level, harder at personal level. @rogerahicks

Then think about it. Any deep & meaningful sense of identity goes back a very long way to one's ethnic roots.
