@ArtirKel This one is meant for you. :) I estimated about 6 Earths of material, assuming 100% efficiency. What do you get?

Meaning that even if we used all the inner planets and all the moons and asteroids, we don't have enough material. :P

Basically. So no Dyson sphere for us :( But maybe a Dyson ring or swarm could be feasible

Could we mine material from the gas giants? Apparently, 'not too difficult' to extract gasses. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atmospheric_mining …

Gases are easy, but for hard materials, getting to the core of the giants to get minerals means absurdly high pressures

Maybe easier to just make them from fusion if we have a lot of gas?

That would be one option. Jupiter has over 300 Earth massees. Given enough energy, and a better understanding of fusion

One could get to iron only. Beyond that, you have to add net mass-energy to the mix. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iron_peak

Yes, but if we have 'near infinite' energy (massive amounts of fusion), this may not be that big of a problem.

But then again, normally it does require a supernova... :p
