They're terribly poor and medicine is valuable, so I'd rather wager it's 50/50 cargo cult vs. seeking profit. I don't deny the low IQ and the ensuing societal dysfunction.
It's not like Americans believe they should minimize the meds they take because they are so smart. Most just happen to have a more adaptive stupid belief, that natural things are good and chemicals are bad.
