They're terribly poor and medicine is valuable, so I'd rather wager it's 50/50 cargo cult vs. seeking profit. I don't deny the low IQ and the ensuing societal dysfunction.

It's not like Americans believe they should minimize the meds they take because they are so smart. Most just happen to have a more adaptive stupid belief, that natural things are good and chemicals are bad.

Yeah this is honestly pretty dumb. In medical school I worked in Little Haiti. If I were to generalize, the Haitians tended to be poor historians. But nothing too out of the ordinary, and nothing like the anecdotes from Scott.
