Oh always go with the audience over critics when there is a big difference.

I was thinking, maybe we should expe t this because the audience are self selected for ppl who the media is aimed at. The critics are forced to watch stuff not necessarily meant for them. And we look at reviews of things we are interested in - so audience is better match.

This is true. I feel like their job is to be able to evaluate movies that aren't the kind you prefer relative to others of their genres though. Notably, I don't often see negative reviews for children's movies because the adult reviewing it doesn't like that sort of movie.

Perhaps it occurs when movie genre boundaries are less clear, and different types of movies are compared in their minds.
