I think by the terms of the dbGAP they can't share the data. you could certainly request access though https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/projects/gap/cgi-bin/study.cgi?study_id=phs000607.v3.p2&phv=375707&phd=5001&pha=&pht=3445&phvf=&phdf=&phaf=&phtf=&dssp=1&consent=&temp=1#restricted-access-section …

It would also be good to see them actually address this request for transparency. If there is a clear reason they cannot share certain aspects of their research, then they could say what it is.

Why not address this openly, here on Twitter? Aren't they advocates of open science? The more information in the public domain, the better, right?

Sure but it's not like you asked. For all you know Emil told Imhotep why the data couldn't be shared.

I've actually been following this. And according to
@pp0196 and@sillyolyou, they were blocked by Emil when they requested the data. Let's ask them here, did Emil provide a reason why the data couldn't be shared?2 replies 0 retweets 6 likes -

Lol. How do you think that conversation went? They ask and emil just belligerently blocks instead of explaining why he can't share the data? Let's ask:

These various people wrote to us under several pseudonyms on Twitter and email. Since I know their motivations, I had no interest in helping them out. The data are of course public since it's NLSY series, they are just too stupid/lazy to download it themselves.pic.twitter.com/gdvBXq8frq

In any case, John was somewhat nicer to them than I am to such ideologues.pic.twitter.com/Vdv1u7dnNN
