Thread. Even if you're already convinced that University of Pennsylvania's Amy Wax is a racist, @IChotiner's interview with her is well worth reading. /1https://twitter.com/WilcoxNMP/status/1165260559266275328 …

      2. The substance and spirit of Amy Wax's remarks here--as well as her coy refusal to define racism--are appalling and outrageous: https://www.newyorker.com/news/q-and-a/a-penn-law-professor-wants-to-make-america-white-again …

Why do you spend so much time reading about this? Seems like a puritan obsession type behavior. Like debating whether someone is truly saintly/devout or not.

I think it would be better, usually, to address the arguments and likely consequences of policies. Is X racist is no longer edifying because, as Wax noted, the word has lost almost all meaning. But, Saint Augustine really was saintly. End of debate.

I disagree about racism. Just because the Woke have abused it doesn’t mean they get to control the lexicon. /1

Or if I put that in plain English: I’m repelled by Wax’s beliefs, as are the vast majority of my fellow Americans. /end

I find it more correct to say that the vast majority of Americans are repelled by what they THINK Wax' views are. The title for the New Yorker piece alone was a gross distortion.

Vast majority? Sounds like https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/False_consensus_effect …. Journos in blue elite bubbles thinking everybody agrees with them.

Actually, I intended to say that the vast majority of those who think they are repelled are only repelled by what they THINK Wax' views are. Alas, got a notification and was sidetracked though the gist was the same.

To me --and I've been reading her stuff for well over a decade, she's simply saying that mass immigration from developing countries poses hurdles we are apparently not prepared to handle well. All the SHOULDS in the world cannot undo the IS.

Sure, that's just fine. Reasonable people can argue about the amount of immigration from developing countries. But she crossed a line or let her true colors show at the NatCon conference, as @CathyYoung63 made clear.
