Transportation and heating/cooling can be mostly electrified. Other areas are tricky to move out of our carbon addiction. Perhaps we will need just live with some emissions and then remove the carbon from the atmosphere.

Political issue is global warming and the obvious partial solution is nuclear power, which is being opposed by the same people who are most interested in global warming.

Yes. Generation IV nuclear. Both catastrophic anthropogenic global warming advocates and those skeptical of CAGW can get behind it for different reasons and it solves the former, if the former is even real.

We don't know what it would do to our ecosystem. Maybe it's safe, but we don't know. Check out the four pests campaign by Mao ze Tung. He tried to exterminate sparrows but it had unintended consequences. ( He also tried to exterminate mosquitoes)

I think we can be as confident as we are of anything in the biological sphere that exterminating a small number of species of mosquitoes wouldn't do anything as bad as malaria. Mao's stupid attack on the four pests would have been justified if it eliminated malaria.

As much as i like nuclear, it is notorious for being incredibly bureaucratic and expensive. I'd wait for gen 4 reactors to be in operation before making the claim that nuclear in any way solves global warming.
