Going to be interesting if CRISPR deletes more of the dna strand than its supposed to and copying errors occur. Assuredly more problems than being deaf. Why can't anyone wait for some more studies/ testing?

Best way to get more progress is to try more.

That the same idea mooney (whatever his name was) had with reimer with disastrous results. Its an ethical consideration people tend to negate when new science comes along.
-
Most ethical seems to be to stick with zygote selection to avoid rare genetic disorders instead of CRISPR before more research has been done. However, both approaches will lead to embryo ranking and narrowing of gene pool via short-sighted selection

Agree 100%

Humans have huge genetic diversity, so there is no problem with any CRISPR editing removing too much diversity in any close future. You display strong status quo bias. Try the approach advocated here: https://nickbostrom.com/ethics/statusquo.pdf …

Interesting thought that this is in some ways a genocide. It seems the list of unwanted mutations will grow exponentially in the coming years.
-
If you had (or have) a disability and a doctor can cure you and all those who have the same disability you would call it genocide?
-
I think this comes into play for people with non fatal diseases. Members of the deaf community used the term to protest the notion that deafness should be eliminated.
-
Have you ever seen videos of deaf people being genocidated? It's interesting to see:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cVVwiHRLLxY …

I was referencing a quote from the article.

Check out our new Science and Tech
@YDWN_podcast , where we discuss this new CRISPR development and what it would mean to ‘cure’ deafness.http://www.ceetar.com/YouDidWhatNow/2019/07/22/episode-5-the-crispr-dilemma-if-it-aint-broke-maybe-fix-it-anyway/ …Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo
