Inefficient code doesn't mean bad code. It fits the purpose. Suckiness of research is orthogonal problem.

Agreed. If it gets the job done & fits the purpose more power to it. There is a lot of code snobbery out there where the purpose seems to be more about form than substance. In fact, there is a subset of coders who never finish a project due to perpetual optimization & polishing.
