That feeling when my scale says I've lost 2kg after a night out drinking and eating fast food--checking if I still have all my teeth or how tf did the weight otherwise go down?

It's water balance. Girls talk to me about this so often, how they lost 2kg over a week doing this or that, and I always know it's just water balance.

I guess I've just never realized how big impact water balance can have. I wasn't exaggerating when I said 2kg (4.4 pounds). That is a serious weight perturbation

Well yours is unusually fast. Drink some more water! I find that I feel better the next day if I do.

Do you tell the girls that's just water balance? Dilemma: be positive or be real?

Measure yourself for a week couple of times a day and plot the results. You see very clearly the water balance, stomach content, intestinal content effects.

I literally do that right now. I've been measuring my weight almost every day for about 40 days.

What's your weight loss per day (long term average)?
