You're assuming that the deleterious effect would necessarily be discovered in the first generation. How long was something like Tay-Sachs percolating in the genomes of Jewish populations before it was discovered to be a serious problem?
Also, every time you do it you're potentially introducing off-target mutations which are themselves deleterious. So it's not as easy a problem to solve as you suggest. The more you do it the more you compound the potential for negative unintended consequences.
