Suppression of scientific research is not always done for ideological reasons. Opposition to parapsychology is quite stern, but not obvious what kind of ideological threat it would pose to leftism of academics. Po-mo stuff is wacky and tolerated and partially enforced now (intersectionalism pseudoscience). But why the hostility to psi stuff? It's kinda otherworldly and doesn't seem related to any political issues to get upset about.

Can be explained by not-wacky preferences smaller than woke po-mo prefs. Can be wacky if in the woke direction. I really think they would just like to be taken more seriously.

Not all ideology is political ideology. Scientism is an ideology, and psi threatens it. And scientism runs deeper today, in some ways, IMO, than political ideology does. See e.g. the earnestness in some left attempts to claim "science proves biological sex is a myth".
