Instead of you calculating your own taxes, you could just send the govt your tax info and they could calculate your taxes. In this case, you'd never risk being arrested for wrong taxes, but you'd also find it harder to cheat. Do you favor this change?

Yes, what I hear about the US is bonkers. The gov already knows everything about you anyway, why not use that in your favor so you you don't have to work extra (?). And when they make mistakes, getting a refund is very easy (in the UK they tell you!)
It's because the companies that sell the tax report tools bribe politicians. Special interest that keeps winning.
