I don't know why anyone would think that it did. After all, age gaps are not measurement invariant. It's the whole point of Cattell's fluid vs crystallized distinction.https://twitter.com/rogierK/status/1125853664596373506 …

This is such fascinating & important work (by @MartinLovden & others): within-subject fluctuations across cognitive tests across 100 occasions do not match the between-person structure in intelligence. In other words, dense longitudinal sampling is needed https://peerj.com/preprints/27576/ … pic.twitter.com/QeIX2g1OOW

G varies in development. Its cognitive composition is dominated by attention & executive control up to 5 yrs, inductive reasoning and working memory from 6-10 yrs, and deductive reasoning and cognitive awareness from 11-15 yrs. Measurement & cognitive invariance are not the same.

Yet people do, both explicitly (see quotes from gignac 2014 and Juan-Espinosa 2002), and less explicitly (e.g. Kanazawa, when he talks about ‘using g’ when encountering ecological challenges)pic.twitter.com/J6ZLYiIkLp

the evidence for old age differentiation is rather weak, e.g. ‘ Little evidence for age modification of ability differentiation was found.’ From tucker-drob 2009, plus the trajectories needn’t imply consistent differences in within or between subject *covariance*

Simply put, within subject changes and fluctuations in cognitive ability/performance have been woefully neglected, yet in many contexts (e.g. changing performance with sleep etc.) are the thing we care about - treating this result as trivial/expected is, in my view, simply wrong
