In the gym you don't take advice from people weaker than you. I'd say the same should apply to science, but we don't have any good metrics.

Not really practical. Science needs to invest more objective metrics of quality based on publishes works, preferably that have some inter-disciplinary comparability. Progress being made recently with statcheck etc., but I'm sure machine learning could outperform.
