They may interpret "more diversity" in a non-ethnic way.

Ok so I guess that's not the explanation. But this also shows that the comparison makes no sense, since respondents are asked to judge the change in diversity *in their country*, and this has changed in completely different ways in different countries.
-
Identifying percieved change in the demographic composition of your country -> feelings about diversity is probably useful. Comparatively it might make sense if you could identify a trend and added te various qualifications.
-
I mean, it makes absolutely no sense to ask Koreans who think diversity has increased in Korea whether they think the change has been good and Frenchmen the same thing about France, then compare the results and say Koreans are more in favor of diversity. That's just ridiculous.
-
I'm not saying there is *no* way to use this survey to compare *some* things, although frankly it's not obvious there is if you're comparing countries like France and Korea, but *this* comparison makes no sense whatsoever.
-
If you could see in countries X where people were more likely to think divesity had increased they were overall more hostile than in countries Y where they were less likely to think it had incr, then it could tell you something. But tbh I dont really disagree with you re the poll.

The world is already diverse with hundreds of ethnicities, we should not destroy ethnic diversity by abolishing borders. Not all borders are material, some are ethnic, cultural and or ideological. Let's share our diversity by protecting it.
