Rates of bipolar quite much lower in China. While this could be consistent with diagnosis issues/measurement variance, it is also the expected result based on the known creativity gap in favor of Europeans, which is associated with BP as extreme phenotype https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/27771597 pic.twitter.com/3pFBnStK3p

Lower. I think, aside from the confounding measurement issues, that East Asians have less mental illness than European descent peoples. They are more normal; less variant. https://molecularautism.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/2040-2392-4-7 … https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6001678/ … https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4054540/ …pic.twitter.com/z4qd96mvH1

It may also just be suppression / failure to diagnose, + differential expression. There's a whole (small) literature on Western psychologization vs. Eastern somatization. I.e. mental illness manifests more psychologically in the West, and more somatically there.

Well, find within country racial comparisons, e.g. from USA, to check for diagnostic bias.

Yup, that would be a nice test—I am just mostly skeptical that creativity is a (the) major explainer. I do doubt that controlling for differences in diagnosis would destroy the observed patterns here.
