It may also just be suppression / failure to diagnose, + differential expression. There's a whole (small) literature on Western psychologization vs. Eastern somatization. I.e. mental illness manifests more psychologically in the West, and more somatically there.
Well, find within country racial comparisons, e.g. from USA, to check for diagnostic bias.
Yup, that would be a nice test—I am just mostly skeptical that creativity is a (the) major explainer. I do doubt that controlling for differences in diagnosis would destroy the observed patterns here.
