I had a terrible breakdown at the student-advisor relationship, and in my third semester I bought a watercolor painting of Sisyphus to hang up by my bed. I'd be lying if I said I didn't develop depression in graduate school (idk about suicidal ideation but I definitely knew ppl).

Why's it so bad though? I decided against master's/PhD because opportunity cost is immense vs gainful employment, honestly never heard of the mental health issues.

I am not sure. I think there's a few factors: 1) the type of people who go to grad school may be prone to this 2) shit pay 3) you're someone's bitch for several years 4) the light at the end of the tunnel is a job market with a <2% placement rate

Returns vs investment are quite dismal. I had to relocate to another state for full employment.
