In "Uncontrolled", the author demonstrates how extremely difficult it is to intentionally create specific social change in society. He also suggests that we therefore should have a rational status quo preference. "The burden of proof [is] on those who advocate change."

I'm referring to the book "Uncontrolled" by Jim Manzi. Very interesting book. It's about philosophy of science, social science, and politics. Advocates random experimentation to find out what works and what doesn't.

I also recommend this book. @razibkhan also write about it some years ago prompting me to read it.
