If fat acceptance is causal for higher BMIs thru less social policing, does that mean that fat shaming is technically an underused protective factor for diabetes, heart disease etc.? Conclusion seems unavoidable.

At this point, it’s simply a reasonable hypotheses that ought to be tested.

It’s not reasonable nor is it practical to test.

Maybe not practical, but why not reasonable? If exercise and diet have an effect on health and social pressure has an effect on behavior, it seems reasonable.

Exercise and diet don’t have much effect on health, at least no intervention in such has shown any such effect. No evidence social pressure can change such on a large scale. No known way to make it happen. Like I said, not reasonable or practical.

Yes. We’re adapted for scarcity. Our instinct is to gorge. The necessity of fat shaming is part of the price of having a society with an abundance of cheap food. Food companies, unfortunately, are immune to shame.

Similarly, bullying serves a purpose, but it is taboo to admit it. The War On Adversity makes losers of us all.

Why would strangers care about another person's propensity for diabetes? Fat shaming is much more about encouraging self-control and curbing sloth. It's a pressure that discourages freeloading and prevents the "weakest links" from compromising the fitness of the whole tribe.
