Why do polygenic scores predict? One idea is that they tag ancestry or parental traits. One can test this by comparing siblings, which Belsky et al did. n weighted average of the within/between effect size gives a value of about 80%, a decent estimate of the causal %.pic.twitter.com/NGf07CfZsI

The sibling method is based on difference scores which are less reliable than individual scores, so the effect is attenuated.

I think in practice this is offset because the sibling cohorts are often much better tested than the mass samples like UKBB, so it's swings and roundabouts.

In this case they are not using iq test data, so the reliability issue doesn't apply that much.
