The alternative is that they hatch and end up in a meat grinder within minutes of birth. This is an improvement. Even from an industrial vega free POV it is an incredible waste.

Oh I agree, I'm just imagining how things would have been discussed in the media if instead we were mass killing female chicks. Someone would find a way to talk about sex abortions in Asia, patriarchy etc.
